2022 Levy
-
In February 2022, Vashon Island residents will be asked to vote on a EP&O Levy that renews critical funding for educational programs and services all Vashon Island School District students engage with.
What does the EP&O levy pay for?
-
Small Class Sizes
Small Class Sizes
Smaller class sizes mean greater opportunities for successful teacher and student interaction throughout the class day. The EP&O Levy helps pay for instructional assistants and paraeducators that ensure VISD students' receive high-quality instruction each day.
-
Health and Safety
Health and Safety
The EP&O Levy funds our nurses and related staff throughout our district. These staff members have taken on even more important and critical roles as we safely navigate the school year during the pandemic.
-
Academic, Social, and Emotional Support
Academic, Social, and Emotional Support
Since March 2020, our students have experienced an extreme disruption to their academic and social lives. The EP&O Levy helps fund programs that enable our students to receive all the support they need to realize their utmost academic potential.
The EP&O Levy also funds important mental and behavioral health supports, including our school counselors, family outreach coordinator, and many of our community partnerships.
-
Exceptional Teachers
Exceptional Teachers
The EP&O Levy not only funds many of the teachers in our district, it pays for the continued professional development of all of the teachers and staff members. This development is essential to providing the best education possible for VISD students.
-
It is important to note that the 2022 EP&O Levy is not a new tax. It renews an expiring tax that provides local funding for critical programs, services, and needs that are not covered by state and federal dollars. Because the current EP&O Levy comprises approximately 15 percent of VISD's current budget, a failure to enact the levy would mean significant and painful reductions and cuts to our faculty, programs, and services for students.
- The proposed tax rate is $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed value, starting in 2023 and ending in 2026.
The proposed EP&O Levy would allow the district to collect approximately $25 million over the course of four years.
