Fresh Meals for Flourishing Minds

  • Welcome to the Vashon Island Food Services Program!

The Vashon Island School District distinguishes itself by offering a predominately ‘made-from-scratch’ (breakfast and lunch) menu to our students and staff at all three of our schools. We thank the previous Director, Lisa Cyra, for her fourteen years of leadership and expertise in helping our district build this meaningful program.

Over the last several years, we have made it a priority to connect students to our local food system through procurement of locally-grown produce whenever possible. We are thrilled that our partnership with Matsuda Farm allows us to serve sustainable and delicious vegetables grown less than a mile from our schools!

Because we are a mostly made-from-scratch program, our kitchen is a bustling and dynamic space where we take immense care and caution to ensure our meals exceed all nutritional, caloric, quality, and safety standards. Our menu items are often composed of many ingredients that we process and prepare on-site, daily -- which can make managing allergens a uniquely challenging, yet vital part of our effort to be an inclusive and welcoming space to all. To help us best support our students and staff, we ask that all allergens be provided to the school nurse, Brandi Greenidge, with a note from the treating physician so our staff can be fully prepared to feed your child.

Free and Reduced Meals

  • We want everyone, regardless of income, to feel encouraged to enjoy our freshly-prepared meals. If you think your family may qualify free-and-reduced-price meals, please fill out the free and reduced application located on this webpage.

Please note: ALL Chautauqua Elementary Schools students will receive free breakfast and lunch during the 2024-25 school year, regardless of family income.

How to Make Payments

  • Payments/deposits can be made on your student's meal account with a credit/debit card online through Skyward Family and Student Access. A small fee applies.

Payments/deposits can also be dropped off at school offices or mailed to VISD, P.O. Box 547, Vashon, WA 98070.

Keep Current with What is Cooking

  • In the months ahead, we look forward to introducing you to our quarterly “Tidbits” column, in which we will highlight some of the delicious meals we’re making and share other relevant information regarding the Food Services Program. We also aim to include some opportunities to solicit community/parent/student/teacher feedback. It is our hope that this will allow our dedicated team a meaningful way of providing helpful resources and dialogue to our island’s wonderful stakeholders.
