Public Notice Regarding Destruction of Special Education Records
Special Education records that have been collected by the Vashon Island School District related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of Special Education services in the district, must be maintained under state and federal laws for six years after Special Education services have ended when the student is no longer eligible for services, graduates, completes their program at age 22, or withdraws from the District.
In accordance with WAC 392-172A-05235, this notification is to inform parents/guardians and former students of VISD of the District's intent to destroy the Special Education records of students who are no longer receiving Special Education services as of the end of the 2015-16 school year.
Parents/legal guardians or eligible adult students may request copies of the records in writing by emailing tgateman@vashonsd.org by May 31, 2024.
